Villa Pian del Rocchio is a country villa for holidays, surrounded by a large garden with swimming pool, located in a splendid, typically Umbrian green plateau, surrounded by gentle hills sloping down towards the Tiberina Valley below.
The Villa accommodates up to twelve people, with the possibility of adding cots or beds for children, and can be booked for periods of one or more weeks, starting from Saturday.

This is the place for the simple things in life, like relaxing with a book, sunbathing, enjoying the hill-land climate, the pool, the barbecue, and even lunch or dinner on the veranda, or in the cool of the Pergola under the fresh green foliage of two large mulberry trees.
But it is also a place surrounded by history and beauty, from which you can visit the marvels of artistic Medieval cities like Orvieto, Todi, Montecastello, Deruta, Torgiano, Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Montefalco, and Spoleto, all close by, or farther afield, Norcia and Cascia, or even Rome, Siena or Florence, each no more than two hours away by car.

RECEPTION
Being on vacation means dealing with as few things as possible, because someone has already taken care of them for you. Or at the very least, it means dealing only with what you wish to.
Guests need only meet Gaetano and Clara for these thoughts to become reality.
Gaetano and Clara, who truly “invented” this villa, will be happy to place themselves at your disposal at the start of your stay, doing all that is needed to make your stay a comfortable and pleasant one.
To begin with, they will show you the villa in its every detail. But they can also take you to the nearby town of Marciano, and personally introduce you to the people who run the places that will be so useful to you during your stay: shops, supermarkets, restaurants, the cooperative wine growers’ association where you can purchase D.O.C. local wine, and the rotisserie establishment well known for its flavourful local dishes that can be ordered for takeout.
All this will help you experience the comfort and security of feeling at home while on vacation. And if you need to know the visiting hours of a museum or church, or the place and date of a market or fair, or if you require information on flight and train schedules, where to find major services, the availability of a tour guide or of a car with driver, or even just the weather forecast, Gaetano and Clara will be glad to provide all the assistance you need to enjoy your vacation in even greater tranquillity and relaxation.

HISTORY
Before becoming a vacation house, Villa Pian del Rocchio came into being as the “home of the future”. That is to say the future as it was pictured by Gaetano and his wife Clara starting from when they realized that their son Francesco would not follow them in their chosen field as chemical engineers, because his great passion for nature was leading him down different paths.
Open spaces, animals, and above all horses: starting at the tenderness age, these became growing passions for Francesco, which were later to lead him to practice horseback riding, and convince him while still in grammar school that he wanted to become a veterinarian when he “grew up”.
And as we all know, true passions are contagious: Francesco thus transmitted his own excitement and chosen path to his parents, leading them to realize their dream of a country house not far from the city of Perugia, for which he left Rome to study at the university department of veterinary medicine. And it was Perugia where Clara, as a secondary-school student had lived with her family, leaving it for Rome to continue her studies.
A circle was thus closed, and a dream come true – brought about with hard work and the joy of accomplishing something in line with the way Gaetano and Clara see life.
Perhaps it’s because people do not become engineers by accident; maybe it’s because Gaetano and Clara like doing things right, but the fact is that each and every material used was carefully and patiently chosen, and every corner designed, evaluated, and discussed before being turned into reality with the contribution of skilled, locally-selected craftspeople.
Only later on – partially because of excitement with the results, and partially because of the realization of being right in the middle of the green paradise that Umbria is – did the idea of the vacation villa come about.
Villa Pian del Rocchio is therefore, above all, a home. And the beauty and uniqueness that everyone can find there are a sure sign of the care we take in the things we do for ourselves and those we love most.
Francesco did not change his mind as he grew older. After earning his degree in veterinary medicine, he was awarded the diploma of Doctor of Research in Equine Sciences. he collaborated with the clinic of the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Perugia and subsequently graduated in equine Medicine and Surgery at the University of Teramo.
On 14 March 2009, Francesco and his wife Maria Gabriella – also a veterinarian – welcomed a daughter, Sofia Clara, making Gaetano and Clara the happy grandparents they had always dreamed of being.
A natural wonder on her own, Sofia Clara gives new meaning to that conception of the future from which everything began, saying loud and clear that even when a circle appears closed, that is not necessarily the case.

ABOUT THE PLACE
In the municipality of San Venanzo in the province of Terni, within the Orvieto tourism district, rises Pian del Rocchio, the plain that is home to the villa that bears its name.
Situated on an upland plain at 450 metres above sea level, Pian del Rocchio dominates Valle Tiberina – the Valley of the Tiber which, after winding its way for about 200 kilometres, crosses Rome before letting out into the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Pian del Rocchio plain includes the Medieval (twelfth century) Casalege of Collelungo; it borders on the large town of Marsciano downhill, and that of San Venanzo uphill, respectively 4 and 5 kilometres away.
In the Umbrian dialect, Rocchio means “Spring” or “Waterspout.” And in fact, the area is rich with springs and has two small lakes used to irrigate the surrounding farmland, where grain, tobacco, corn, and sunflowers are raised.
